Help - Why does my windows server vps have the wrong password - I can't change it?

A Windows Server? Did the server export Ports to the Internet? Remote Desktop maybe? Than maybe you have been hacked. You should shut down the server till clarification.

BTW, passwords can only be changed for Linux Sytems, see the Wiki.

For Windows the install routine from Netcup does not set a password. This has been set by yourself during installation from the ISO.

Looks like 185596 didn´t learn that much in the last year (and is running insecure Windows Server now) Please turn off v2202306173546230672, install a hardened (Linux) version and anonymize your screenshots/IP better!

Make sure you set your keyboard layout correctly!

What RAD750 and frank_m mean is that the password reset only works if you have a running Linux distribution on your VPS, so no Windows. You can't use that feature in your current situation.

Your best bet is to use something like option 2 from here:

Your best bet would be to mount some kind of Windows Rescue ISO and go from there.

You should not operate a server, please cancel the contract with netcup.

1. Could it probably be, that you are using the VNC console from within netcup's server control panel and you have a passwort with special chars or keys that are positioned differently on EN and DE keyboards?

Change the keymap and reboot.

2. If you forgot your password, booting a grml iso and using chntpw could help. But be careful, it could destroy your SAM database.
