Extremely slow root server

  • Hi,

I got a new root server around November last year, but I noticed the server is extremely slow since day 1, only 306 Single-Core Score and 954 Multi-Core Score. I thought maybe they oversold during the black Friday/cyber Monday deals, and they will add more server resources later on, plus I have a pretty good experience with the previous line of root server, these were the reason why I didn't cancel within the first 14 days. But I ran the bench over many days, the results are the same, see https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/15799844

The server is pretty much unusable at this performance level. Is anyone having the same issue with me?

I contacted the support about a month ago, but it seems like nothing can be done. Just curious to see if this is the normal performance with the new root server line with AMD EPYC 9645.

  • @sudoNoSleep my older gen has similar benchmarks, while any newer ones, the benchmarks are lowest or pathetic. You can see not just here, but everywhere on the www. Not even sure what stuff NC is giving us, but they are nowhere near to the old Gen ones we have.

  • My RS 500 G12 BW25 runs on the same processor (AMD EPYC 9645), but the numbers as very acceptable.

    1870 Single-Core Score

    3216 Multi-Core Score

I can't run the tests on my RS 2000 G12 Pro NUE BW25, as the OS is unsupported for yabs. I'm not rebooting it to run some tests.

  • 4 Processors, 4 Cores

Any improvement if you change the settings to 1 processor with multiple cores?

Yes, but that means the same thing, what we are keeping on saying. The new G12 are not at all worth it. Wish NC paid attention to such complaints, rather than just focus on sales, and useless stuff.

  • Netcup's response for deal products, and especially G12 ones:

    Zitat

It is not possible to switch from an existing product to a promotional product. The reason for this is that we provide promotional products on special nodes whose capacity must be strictly calculated for the corresponding price-performance ratio.

Promotional products must therefore always be submitted as new orders.

I saw many posts online too saying the same thing, I just don't understand how Netcup think this is ok, this is ruining their reputation as a reliable host.

  • I would run a yabs in the rescue system and open a ticket with its result.

If it shows that same poor benchmark, support will help you. A single core yabs should be around 1700 to 2000 on G1@s2.

SiebenG Is there another way to contact support?

I contacted them, and the last response I got from them is on Jan 9th. I contacted them 2 or 3 times after that, no answer from them at all. Not sure what else I can do at this point.

  • It sure does, but perhaps some underlying code is doing wrong stuff.
My RS G12 is working just fine, as you can see by the numbers above.

I think they oversold. Below is the response I got from the support on Jan 9th. This seems like they are aware of this issue and others have reported the same issue as well.

From what others are saying online, they all got the root servers thought sales, like black Friday, cyber Monday and etc. All with the new line of root server, older lines of root servers are fine.

We would like to inform you that we are currently working together with the responsible internal teams on a comprehensive analysis of the reported performance deviations. The data you have supplied is being evaluated collectively alongside other recent customer reports in order to identify common patterns and potential underlying causes.

I agree the node I am on is oversold, but its been 2 months, surely netcup can do something about it.

At this point, I don't think there is anything I can do, except to eat the cost and not buy any more root server.

To be honest, I am very disappointed. I had one older root server, i believe it is G11, that one has decent performance, I started recommending Netcup to others and are planning to move more sites to Netcup, after this incident, I don't think I will.

  • JasonSnow same here. On the basis of my G11 performance and also the customer support was good that time, I got few I know to change to Netcup. But I am regretting that now, since they are regretting. One stated this to me: I was better off with C ontabo. 😭

    The word c o n t a b o is censored. Seriously!!

  • I have an RS1000 G12 Pro from the eastern US, starting with the Netcup Root Server G12. Due to numerous active discounts, the current performance in Geekbench 5 is significantly lower than the CPU scores of the G11 and G9.5. This should be reflected in the performance of a large number of users.

I hope the community support staff can report these issues and situations to the internal team. The RS1000 G12 Pro and VPS 1000 G12 have virtually identical CPU benchmark performance, meaning the exclusive performance of the root server no longer offers any advantage. This will damage Netcup's credibility and the reputation of new users.

I hope the Netcup team takes this problem seriously and optimizes it.

To be honest, I don't know if they are looking into this. My issue has been going on for two months now, and I can see that they are planning another sale starting today. My root server's performance is worse than shared vps from other providers with less CPU cores and older CPU generation.

At this point, I don't have any hope that netcup is fixing this issue, good thing my minimal contract term is 3 months, I will just lose money for these 3 months. Its sad, I really thought netcup is a reputable provider with decent performance.
