Does Netcup use separate IPv4/IPv6 for each webhosting account?

  • When it comes to mail servers and webservers for webhosting accounts does Netcup give each webhosting account its own IPv4/IPv6 for http and email, or does it simply use CNAMEs to point to number of shared IPs?

    It is possible to request dedicated IPv4/IPv6 for these services?

  • No, IPv4 addresses can only be bought and applied to vServers. Webhostings all share the same IPv4 for their respective host.

    Why do you need unique IPs per domain?

    Not for every domain, but in case some clients don't want to share IP address with others, such as avoid their IP being linked with other domains unrelated to them.

    E.g.

    Webhosting: https://a2f5d.webhosting.systems

    Mailhosting: https://mx2f5f.webhosting.systems

    resolving that results in:

    a2f5d.webhosting.systems has address 46.38.225.13

    a2f5d.webhosting.systems has IPv6 address 2a03:4000:0:1::e18a

    mx2f5f.webhosting.systems has address 46.38.225.138

    mx2f5f.webhosting.systems has IPv6 address 2a03:4000:0:1::e18a

    So no, you have different fqdn for mail and web, but no CNAME involved at this point. Your domain may then use CNAME for addressing the webhosting, but an MX may as per rfc5321 (afaik) never resolve to a CNAME, but rather to a host ALIAS (A, AAAA).

    dedicated IPv6 (no dedicated subnet/prefix!) is possible with reseller products. This does not apply to IPv4.

    If you need dedicated IPv4 addresses and IPv6 look for a (managed!) root server with plesk or look for a root server or vps, if you are a very advanced user with a solid and sound knowlege only. In both of the variants you can book additional services like IPv4/Failover IPv4 as well as IPv6 prefixes just like that, there.
