Routing Issue After Custom Ubuntu Installation

  • Hello,

I have successfully installed Ubuntu 22.04 manually on my VPS (Product: VPS 1000 G11 12M VIE). The assigned IP address 152.53.44.xxx is configured correctly with subnet /22 and default route via 152.53.44.1.

However, I cannot ping the gateway 152.53.44.1 from the VPS, and there is no internet connectivity. My own IP responds to ping locally.

I’m currently unable to start testing my VPS.

I’ve sent two support requests to support@netcup.de on July 12 and July 14, 2025, but haven’t received any reply yet.

It’s possible that the issue is related to network configuration — maybe the routing or ARP settings for my assigned IP address need to be checked and activated.

Has anyone experienced similar delays? Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated.

  • Have you checked your network connection via rescue system?

    FAQ: Using the rescue system

If the rescue system can boot and the network is working, an configuration error on your side is highly likely.

If it's not working, the error needs to be solved by netcup-Support.

Yes, i checked escue system mode - it's not working also, ip address not avalaible from internet via ping & telnet

  • Are you sure this ist your IP? 152.53.44.xxx Because the third octet could also be 45, 46 and 47.

SubNet 152.53.44.xxx/22 ;  broadcast — 152.53.47.255 ; IP usable: 152.53.44.1 – 152.53.47.254. My IP address 152.53.44.xxx belongs to the /22 subnet, which also includes 152.53.45.*, 152.53.46.*, and 152.53.47.*. This is correct and matches the broadcast address 152.53.47.255 as well as the configured gateway 152.53.44.1. These settings are correctly configured in Ubuntu, but the network still does not work.

  • ACDC71: If you're still facing the problem using the rescue system, I'd suggest to make a screenshot, leave it running and to directly call the emergency support (phone number can be found at the bottom of this page).
