Switching from VPS Lite 2 G12s to VPS 1000 G12 (Manassas)

    Hi everyone,

    I ordered a VPS Lite 2 G12s a few days ago and only afterwards realised that Lite plans are assigned automatically to a European location. My project needs a server physically in the US, so what I actually need is a VPS 1000 G12 at the Manassas (MNZ) location.

    From the FAQ I understand that:

    1. the location of an existing server cannot be changed afterwards, and
    2. switching between tariff groups (VPS Lite G12s to VPS 1000 G12) is not possible as an upgrade in the CCP, so the old plan has to be cancelled and the new one ordered.

    What I am asking netcup for is simple: delete my current VPS Lite 2 G12s, issue me a new invoice for the VPS 1000 G12 at the Manassas location, and provision that server once the invoice is paid. I am happy to pay the higher price. It is only a couple of euros more per month, and the mistake was mine, not netcup's. The server has never been used in production and holds no data I need to keep, so removing it causes no problem on my side.

    Questions for anyone who has already done this:

    1. Did support delete the unused Lite plan and bill you for the new one directly, or did you have to wait for a refund first?
    2. Is it better to order the new server in Manassas before cancelling the old one, or the other way round?

    I opened a ticket about this a few days ago and it is still open, so if someone from the netcup team happens to read this, I would really appreciate a look at it. Happy to send the ticket number by PM.

    For a new server, you should be able to see an additional option under "Cancellation" during the first few days.

    The following applies to many products:
    If you are not satisfied with your server within 30 days of ordering, you can return it and receive a full refund of the basic fee (price per month times billing period).
    Important Note: The satisfaction guarantee only applies to first-time orders, not to tariff upgrades.

    I don't know if that's available for you or your server. I've always had this option whenever I've ordered a new server. Good luck :)
