Install Ubuntu 16.04 on Root Server

Any hints on how to install Ubuntu 16.04 on my newly created root server? My app requires this version of Ubuntu to install properly and it's not obvious how to do this. I've mostly worked with VPS's where I have always been able to specify what OS to install but I don't see a similar setup option here. I see that the boot order can be configured which means perhaps that an OS could be loaded to a CD and installed in that manner but it's also not obvious how to load files to the specific devices identified in the boot sequence.
