Issue with /dev/kvm After os reinstall

  • Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a server from Netcup and initially received Debian 12 (Bookworm) - minimal. Upon first boot, I checked /dev/kvm and everything seemed fine. However, after installing images or using the DVD drive for new setup, I am now encountering the following issue:

    ls /dev/kvm

ls: cannot access '/dev/kvm': No such file or directory

Could anyone advise on why this happened and how I can resolve it to enable KVM functionality again?

  • I want to use this Docker setup but need KVM support.

I'm not sure if they still offer nested KVMs, you can ask the support.

But I would advise you to look for a dedicated server or some other (software) alternative. (Like wine)

You can also try to install the qemu-kvm packages and activate the kernel module, but I don't think that this approach will be very fast.
