finally all is sorted.. i was indeed using public key for auth rather than private.. but hey its my first time using the opposite scenario.. i can now configure the server with peace.. spent 3 days trying to get into my own server.. thanks netcup

so i have generated a public key on the server, but i dont know how to download it and use it.. i tried manually addding it in my dev machine but i cant not login to the server.
I have set rootlogin to no and passwordauth to no..
but i still need a user to be able to login via ssh and do a sudo .. -
Do you have another config file in /etc/ssh/ssh_conf.d ?
Somthing like 50-cloud-init.conf or else.
It overwrites the config in sshd_config
good catch.. there is no such file overrriding anything .. What else could be the problem? I never faced this before with other vps providers

Did you add root to the list of AllowUsers?
P.S.: I would not recommend root-login via ssh at all. It is preferred to login as non-privileged user and then using sudo to elevate privileges.
i just did in sshd_config and restart ssh.service but still same problem

hi.. i am getting permissions denied on ssh for the root.. password auth and permit rootlogin is enabled.. has anyone else ran into this issue ... thnaks

sp now its sorted .. i can login using scp vnc..
i was adding the wrong ip address.. ip was given to me was actually that of subnet with /22
i needed to change it to make it work .. ssh still does not connect via command line . i guess i neeed the ssh key -
can you login via scp-vnc?
how do you try to ssh? ip4 ip6 domainname? use the username that was created.
ip v4 only. and using username which i assume is root as i didnt specify any.
i didnt try scp vnc -
Also root with password will not work in the default settings with ssh.
why not? (i cant reach the server.. so its another problem but) why not

i have installed ubuntu but the password does not work .. and also i can not ssh into the server .. it says connection time out..
i did a fresh install just now. i wonder if any config is needed
i cant even ping the server but i can ping the gateway
do we have to type just root or some kind of root@FQDN to login via web console?

Falls dies Ihr erster Server ist, könnte es eine Wartezeit für die Überprüfung geben.
Wenn der Server in Ihrer Liste erscheint, senden sie Ihnen eine E-Mail mit Benutzername und Passwort für das SCP-Panel.
this should be clearly mentioned in the email then .. i dont see anything like this anywhere..
didnt they verify when i created the order because order approval took some time too..anyway.. thanks a lot for the explanation

Then I assume this is the problem. Did you get an email that the server has been created? Or just a confirmation of the order?
