ENGLISH VERSION
===================================
Dear customers,
As part of an important update of Plesk and the operating system of our webhosting systems some changes will occur that affect our customers of the current Plesk Onyx Cloud Web Hosting plans who are still using PHP 5.* versions. During April and June 2020 we will
- remove PHP versions older than 5.6 and
- continue to provide the PHP version 5.6 in a variant with minor functional restrictions
Affected customers will be informed with more details with a newsletter. Only customers using one of the affected versions are currently being notified. The newsletter will be sent to them successively. We ask for a little patience. With this thread we will also give you the possibility to share information and help regarding the topic.
Please also note the frequently asked questions from the newsletter:
ZitatAlles anzeigen1. How can I tell if my application is compatible with PHP 7.*?
We recommend that you simply test this by adjusting the version as described in the text. If all essential functions of your website still work correctly afterwards, you can assume that PHP 7 compatibility exists. However, if this is not the case, you can reset the version at the same place for the time being. You should solve the corresponding problems in the source code until the update time.
2. Can netcup continue to provide PHP versions older than 5.6, possibly for an additional charge?
netcup will under no circumstances continue to provide PHP versions older than 5.6 for the named product. These are not compatible with the new operating system version used. They also represent a potential security risk, since manual patching of these versions is now too time-consuming and in some cases, not possible. The versions can also not be made available for an additional charge.
3. When will the exact update time be announced?
The update can take place at any time between presumably April 2020 and the end of June 2020. We will announce the exact date in advance. The purpose of this announcement is simply to alert you to the impending shutdown of PHP older than 5.6 so that you have enough time to take appropriate action.
4. What exactly are the limitations mentioned in the text above that the new PHP 5.6 version has?
Due to an update of the underlying library, we have noticed limitations in the use of functions that interact with OpenSSL. (This does not mean that using the PHP 5.6 version makes it impossible to use SSL / TLS / HTTPS. This only applies to PHP functions that interact with OpenSSL). However, further restrictions cannot be completely ruled out. We therefore strongly recommend the use of PHP 7.0 or newer.
5. Why does netcup change booked services? The old PHP versions were part of the product when the contract was closed.
netcup must ensure that its own systems can continue to operate safely and stably. There is no current, common operating system which supports PHP versions older than 5.6. Therefore, from a technical point of view, it is inevitable that netcup switches off these old PHP versions. This is in the interest of all customers.
6. Are there other netcup products where PHP older than 5.6 can still be provided and which I can book now?
There are no bookable products for new customers which support PHP older than 5.6.
