Restoring from CCP backup - upgrade of RS

  • I have RS2000 and plan to move up to RS4000. I have checked the forum, the help tutorials etc, but I cannot find any coherent guide of how to download and restore from the CCP backup.

Also, will the backup from RS2000 work on RS4000 if I do? I do not wish to lose data as I have a lot and it will take me 5-6 days to restore everything, if I somehow lose the backup.

Appreciate any sort of guidance here.

  • Move tbvh. Actually, now that you mention it, is there any difference between the 2 (move vs upgrade)?

Moreover, when some new deals will come, if for RS4K, I wish to grab it, so kind of move in that sense.

  • Hello,

you should have a look at the SCP Snapshot functions, its the easiest way to move to a new bigger Server.

Thanks. I am hoping to do that only. Everything from scratch is a big game, and I will go crazy if I go for that. lols.

    Yes

    • Buy server.
    • Make snapshot of old server
    • Export snapshot (No need to download!)
    • Rebuild new server from exported snapshot.
    • Adjust filesystem and network-settings
    • Done

Thanks for the explanation. One last question. What exactly do you mean when you say:

    Code
    Adjust filesystem and network-settings

If the disk of the new server is greater than the old one, then you have to resize partition and filesystem after the rebuild.

The easiest way to do this, is to reboot into the gparted-live-DVD and do it with the GUI (If your Arch is x86. For ARM there is no gparted-DVD in the SCP. In this case its perhaps quicker to do it manually: how to resize)

Furthermore the snapshot of course contains the IPs of the old server.

You have to change these after rebuild in the network-settings.

How to do this exactly, depends on your OS (Ubuntu uses netplan)

  • Thanks for that explanation. I was wondering that is what you meant, but I realized, I might have been wrong, hence requested a scenic understanding.

You have been very helpful, always. Thanks once again for that. :)
