Questions About Changing Server Location and Credit Note with Netcup

  • Hello, this is my first post. I have seen very negative reviews about Netcup, but before I call it bad for me, I decided to give it a chance to determine if it is bad or good, so I just purchased a root server and I am very satisfied with it.

However, I am currently facing a situation. When I ordered the root server from Netcup on September 7, 2024, I only saw three locations: Manassas, USA; Nuremberg, Germany; and Vienna, Austria. I was actually looking for Amsterdam, The Netherlands, but I couldn’t find it, so I chose Nuremberg.

Now, I’ve noticed that Amsterdam has appeared as an option. I received the server on September 10. Should I cancel the current server and reorder a new one with the Amsterdam location? If I cancel, will I have to pay the previous bill since I’ve only had the server for 2 days? Additionally, the bill has been generated, and the due date is September 24, 2024.

Regarding this, I have already emailed and spoken with Netcup, but their response time is slow. Anyway, they said "If the satisfaction guarantee is used, you will receive a full credit note. You can have this credit paid out or offset against existing invoices.". My confusion is about how this credit will be adjusted.

What should I do in this situation? I really need the Amsterdam location.

I would greatly appreciate your assistance with this matter. I look forward to your support!

  • I don't understand the problem you see..

If you cancel this server in the first 30 days after ordering, you can use the satisfaction guarantee in the control panel and get a refund of the full amount paid. Independent from this you can order your AMS server. You could also book the new server now and wait a few days with cancellation of the NUE server (in case you have to move data from A to B)..

  • My main concern is that the bill has already been generated. If I cancel my current server and reorder a new one, how will the billing be calculated? Since my current bill has been generated and is due on September 24, 2024.

Also, I haven’t made the payment for the current server amount yet, so how does that work? According to the Netcup team, they will issue a credit note. How will this credit note be adjusted with my new order? This situation is giving me a headache, and their response time is very slow.

    Thank you for your assistance!

  • This is handled with completely different bills.

The only curious thing can be, that they not auto-set it to 0,00. In this case you'll receive a payment reminder for the old server, you've to bill it, and 5 minutes later you can then refund the credit note to your bank account.. that's a case I had in the past.. perhaps they have changed it meanwhile.. but no worries - you will get your money back asap , normally 1-2 days.

  • Does that mean I have to pay the full amount for my current server, which I have already canceled (hypothetically), and then they will automatically issue a refund after I make the payment? I paid via my credit card, and I don’t have a PayPal account. How will they return my money?

If I order a new server, I will have to pay for it as well. So, in this case, I would have to pay for two servers in one month.

  • Well, never tried it (yet) but this is what I would do. I would pay the bill and order the Amsterdam Server. Then I would use the satsfaction guarantee in the CCP to get the refund for the Nuremberg Server. This should result in a refund showing up in the CCP. This will give you the options to get either the money back or use it for other open bills. Having ordered the Amsterdam server you will get a bill for it and you pay this bill with the refund. Everything should be fine then, I think the price for Nuremberg and Amsterdam is the same, so it should be a perfect fit.

Well, as I've said, I never tried that. So, if someone already doubts that this will work, please correct me.

  • It looks like a very positive and appropriate answer. Should I go with your suggestion? You seem to have a lot of experience in this field. What do you recommend?

If you say that I can pay the bill for the old server, then order the new server in Amsterdam, and after receiving the Amsterdam server, I can choose the satisfaction guarantee from the control panel for a refund. Did I miss anything? Please point it out.

You can definitely do so. What h6g said is then also possible I think.

I don't know why they normally refund only to bank account (you need an IBAN), although I pay mostly by PayPal. But that's an automated process. In case you want it different, you just have to expect 1-2 working days more for manual rework.
